Meta description | This blog is about me as the artist. The struggle to have a passion that takes you away from ever achieving a normal life. Like in ancient times, I'm a forager but not for food or medicines like the ancestors. I hunt and gather for my photographs when visiting cultural areas. My goals are to adequately document each tribes unique individualism of the people, their homelands, customs, artifacts, lifestyles... I use to only photograph Native people in traditional regalia of feathers and leathers. Now I've moved into documenting mainstream everyday life of First Nations. My focus now is "to bring Native communities to you". For over a decade I have been known as the "Leading supplier of American Indian photographs throughout the world". My company, Nativestock Pictures, distributes these images to the who's who in publishing. Over 30,000 of my photographs can be seen on my website at www.nativestock.com. From the very beginning, I've always felt that my Native subjects are partners in creating these positive portrayals. Therefore, I split any fees earned with my models 50/50. Many have entrusted me with signing model releases. Mainly, my pictures are used for educational and editorial purposes. However, hhere are strict restrictions on how these images can be used. For instance, they cannot be used for tobacco, alcohol, disease or pornography. As an artist I spend much of the time alone. Wether I'm working at my office, out on a shoot, traveling, walking my 3 dogs or horseback riding in the Rocky Mountains. I have lots of time to reflect life and think about spirituality. Lately, I've turned to meditation to hear my inner voice. My church is on a trail leading to the top of a mountain among trees and glacier lakes. Sitting up there with open skies to see for miles and miles with a breeze blowing my thought across the land... here is where I find myself with God, The Great Spirit, Allah, the name makes no difference to me. There have been many times, while visiting reservations, that I've been the only non-Indian attending a Sunrise Ceremony, Ground Blessing, Kachina Dance or Totem Pole Raising. Last month I was honored in Montana to be cleansed with a morning burning of cedar that was sprinkled on a tin pie pan, placed on the back burner of an electric stove and in the 1960's style kitchen we smudged before our photographic session began. Here is where my blog will come into use. I want to share so many of the stories that I have here in my heart from traveling throughout Indian Country. I've had Indian names of Fisheyes, She Ain't No Angel, and my favorite is Snowbunny (white on the outside but red on the inside) where I do live in the farming community of a world class Ski Resort. I have a 20 acre horse ranch. My home resembles that of a trading post. Every space and square foot of the walls are covered with my prints framed, early 1800's photographs, carvings, masks, beadwork, kachinas, drums, headdresses, animal skulls, and warshirts. It's a hodge podge of all the different tribes that I've been able to visit. I fund all of my own trips. A few times a year I have assignments from large organizations which helps to pay for models and expenses. I always go way over budget and pay the difference myself. Money is not my success, life experiences are what makes my heart sing. I welcome any of you readers and fellow bloggers out there to share with me your experiences, questions and concerns. Your words will fill up some of the lonely hermit times that many artists seem to experience too frequently. Our work is our passion our spirituality our purpose. Similarly to how a hard drive or a modern SSD device holds your files, a server holds all the files the website needs to operate. To load a webpage, your browser needs to contact the said server and request files - strings of code that make up the website into what it is, including images, text and database entries. Each physical server has a unique IP address that is used by the browser to contact it.
